I’m especially excited to begin bringing Japanese-inspired treatments and techniques into Nomaura following my recent training and experiences in Japan, blending deep relaxation, sensory healing and intentional self-care into the space. When your body is under stress, it doesn’t just stay in your mind - it lives in your nervous system. You might notice it as: – constant tension – feeling “on edge” – difficulty switching off – holding stress in your body This is sympathetic activation (fight/flight). Massage helps guide your body into the parasympathetic state - where it can finally rest, repair, and regulate. And the effects go deeper than just “feeling relaxed”. We’re working with: – your nervous system – your hormones – your muscle patterns – your body’s sense of safety Over time, your body starts to learn a new baseline. One where it doesn’t have to stay in that constant state of tension. This is why I don’t believe in one-off treatments at Nomaura. Everything I do is designed to support your body long-term - so you’re not just getting relief, but real change in how you feel day to day. Most people think massage is about muscles. And yes - that’s part of it. But what I’m really working with is your nervous system. I’m constantly tracking subtle shifts in your body: your breath, your jaw, your shoulders, your movement… Because tension isn’t just physical. It’s often your body staying in a low level of protection. When your system finally feels safe enough to soften, that’s when real change happens. That’s when your breathing deepens. Your body drops. Your mind quietens. This is why treatments at Nomaura feel different. Because it’s not just about what I do - it’s about how your body responds. If your body rarely feels fully at ease, you’re not failing at relaxation. You may just be overstimulated. Modern life keeps the nervous system in a constant state of ‘on’ - notifications, rushing, mental load, poor rest, always thinking about the next thing. Over time, the body adapts to that. So even when you stop, your system doesn’t always follow. That’s why you can still feel tense, wired, or restless… even when you’re trying to relax. This is where nervous system-aware treatments come in. Massage, head spa, Reiki, and facial work at Nomaura are all designed to gently support that shift - not by forcing relaxation, but by creating the conditions where your body feels safe enough to soften. The heart chakra is often spoken about in a really surface-level way - like it’s something we can just open. But in reality, the heart closes for a reason. It closes when something hasn’t felt safe. When vulnerability hasn’t been met with care. When your system has learned to protect you. So supporting the heart isn’t about forcing it open. It’s about creating enough safety for it to soften… in its own time. This is something I hold deeply in my work at Nomaura - whether that’s through touch, presence, or simply creating a space where you don’t have to be “on”. Because healing doesn’t happen through pressure. It happens through safety. When your nervous system shifts into fight or flight, your thoughts follow. They speed up, they future-focus, they search for control. So the solution isn’t more thinking. It’s gently guiding your body back to safety. This is something I’m really mindful of at Nomaura - creating treatments that don’t just feel relaxing in the moment, but actually support your nervous system long term. If you’ve been feeling more bloated, puffy, or just a little bit off in your body lately… this is something I see a lot. Especially if you’re: – on a weight loss journey (including medications like Mounjaro or Ozempic) – noticing more fluid retention before your period – post-pregnancy – or just feeling heavier than usual in yourself Many of my clients find lymphatic drainage really supportive during these phases. It works gently with your body to encourage fluid movement, reduce that heavy feeling, and support your natural detox processes. When your system is overwhelmed, it’s easy to turn inward with criticism. To push harder. To expect more from yourself. To feel like you should be coping “better”. Research shows it can lower stress hormones, increase emotional resilience, and support your body in coming out of that constant “on” state. 🦋
